Situada no largo Largo Marquês de Pombal, junto à estação de caminho de ferro, a escultura de homenagem ao toureiro foi inaugurada no dia 29 de setembro de 2001, numa iniciativa que partiu da Câmara Municipal, Junta de Freguesia, Tertúlias, Associações, Coletividades e Instituições de Vila Franca de Xira.
O Monumento ao Toureiro é uma peça em bronze da autoria de Rui Fernandes e realça uma das figuras da arte tauromáquica onde mais se reveem valores de tradição. A estátua assenta num burladero, local na arena delimitado por uma barreira onde o toureiro se refugia em caso de perigo.
Monument to the Toureiro Located in Largo Marquês de Pombal, next to the railway station, the sculpture in honour of the toureiro (bullfighter) was inaugurated on September 29 2001, in an initiative of the Town Council, Parish Council, Tertúlias, Associations, Collectivities and Institutions of Vila Franca de Xira.
The Monument to the Toureiro is a bronze piece by Rui Fernandes and highlights one of the figures of the bullfighting art where tradition values are more evident. The statue stands in a burladero, a place in the arena delimited by a barrier where the bullfighter takes refuge in case of danger.
