A estação de Vila Franca de Xira insere-se na Linha do Norte, no troço entre Lisboa e Carregado, inaugurado a 28 de setembro de 1856. O comboio inaugural, transportou a família real e fez uma paragem de poucos minutos em Vila Franca de Xira.
O edifício da estação, de estilo tradicional português, foi revestido em 1930 com painéis azulejares da autoria do pintor Jorge Colaço que mostram temas do quotidiano, paisagens campestres do Ribatejo relacionadas com o trabalho, os barcos no Tejo e episódios históricos.
Railway station The Vila Franca de Xira railway station is part of the North Line, the section between Lisbon and Carregado which was inaugurated on September 28 1856. The inaugural train, carryied the royal family, and stopped for a few minutes in Vila Franca de Xira.
The station building, in the traditional Portuguese style, was covered in 1930 with tile panels by the painter Jorge Colaço that show themes of daily life, country landscapes of Ribatejo related to work, the boats on the Tejo and historical episodes.
